Technology & Applied R&D

    Technology & Applied R&D

UKVPM's work has evolved alongside changes in media and digital technology for more than three decades. Alongside our established creative practice, we research and develop digital platforms and emerging technologies that address complex operational, communication and resilience challenges.

Our applied R&D spans artificial intelligence, cybersecurity and digital resilience, data-driven platforms and immersive technology: areas where hands-on production and platform experience gives the research practical grounding.

A technical evolution, not a pivot

Each stage built on the last. The attention to reliability, workflow and detail that underpins broadcast production now shapes how we design, test and govern software and AI systems.

    Research and development pillars

Four connected areas of work, each grounded in capability UKVPM already uses in practice.

    Pillar 01

    Artificial Intelligence & Agent Assurance

We integrate AI where it genuinely improves a service, and research how AI-assisted and agentic systems can be governed, monitored and held to account once they are given access to tools and data.

UKVPM does not build foundation models. Our focus is the layer between AI models and the real-world systems they act on.

    • Responsible AI integration
    • Agentic systems and tool access
    • Evidence-driven decisions
    • Policy-controlled AI behaviour
    • Human oversight and escalation
    • Model and provider independence
    • Operational AI risk

    Pillar 02

    Cybersecurity & Digital Resilience

Systems should fail safely, keep an accurate record of what happened and recover predictably. We apply secure-by-design thinking to the platforms we build and treat resilience as a design requirement rather than an afterthought.

    • Secure-by-design architecture
    • Access control and least privilege
    • Evidence integrity and auditability
    • Failure handling and safe fallback
    • Operational continuity
    • Risk-informed design

    Pillar 03

    Digital Platforms & Data Systems

Our platform work runs from the websites and content systems we deliver for clients to data-driven services such as Corehaven, which combines location-based risk information, structured assessments and AI-assisted guidance.

    • Cloud-hosted web applications
    • Structured data and APIs
    • Location-aware information
    • Secure digital services
    • Workflow automation
    • Intelligent services

    Pillar 04

    Immersive & Emerging Technology

Through UKVRM, our immersive practice produces 360-degree virtual tours, digital twins, CGI and drone media. It remains a practical testbed for spatial data, new interfaces and clearer ways of communicating complex environments.

    • 360-degree capture and virtual tours
    • Digital twins
    • CGI and visualisation
    • Drone capture
    • Spatial media
    • Emerging interfaces

    Principal R&D programme

    COREHAVEN™

AI, Resilience & Intelligent Systems R&D

Corehaven is a UKVPM technology and R&D programme exploring resilient digital services, AI-assisted preparedness and evidence-driven approaches to the safe operation of increasingly autonomous AI systems. Within it, Corehaven Guardian provides a working foundation for AI agent assurance, under continued development and validation.

    How we approach R&D

Credibility in applied research comes from being precise about what exists, what is being built and what remains an open question.

    Evidence before claims

We describe capabilities by their real status. Working foundations, active development and research objectives are labelled separately.

    Security and resilience by design

Access control, auditability and failure behaviour are considered from the outset, not added after launch.

    Human accountability

AI should support accountable decisions, not remove the people responsible for them.

    Provider independence

Designs aim to remain governable as AI models and vendors change.

    Staged validation

Capabilities move from research to demonstration to validation in controlled steps.

How to read status labels on our R&D pages

    Working foundation
Implemented in the current development platform and exercised in testing. Not a claim of production certification.
    In active development
Partly built and being extended, integrated or hardened.
    Research objective
A question we are investigating. Outcomes are not yet established.
    Potential application
A context where the work may be applied in future. Not a current deployment.

    A multidisciplinary team

UKVPM's applied R&D combines expertise across digital platforms, artificial intelligence, media technology, cybersecurity, systems thinking and resilience.

Research, Innovation and Strategic Partnerships at UKVPM Ltd are led by Dr Zainab Saleh, who is also a Senior Lecturer in Aerospace Engineering at Kingston University London. Her UKVPM role is independent of her university appointment, which does not imply institutional participation, partnership or endorsement by Kingston University.
